For the past two years, OneVine Foundation has had the privilege of presenting Ruth Gifts to women recognized by MOMS Orange County for their sacrifice, humility, and courage to their families. This year, we honored three incredible mothers with Ruth Gifts and while we were hearing their stories, I was moved by all of them, especially by a woman named Gisela. I felt the Holy Spirit on the move wanting to do more.

Gisela, a 33-year-old mother was born deaf and has faced significant barriers throughout her life. Without access to the resources needed to learn sign language in Spanish, Gisela primarily communicates through texting and technology. Over the past 30 years, she has had to navigate challenges accessing healthcare and other essential services.

When her son was born Gisela remained proactive, organized, and deeply committed to his development. With support from her MOMS care team, she has embraced every opportunity to learn, regularly participates in Mommy & Me groups, and continually applies the guidance she receives to help her son thrive. Today, her son is meeting his developmental milestones. OneVine was able to step in and support Gisela’s comprehensive evaluation resulting in her receiving hearing aids and now she can hear!

Gisela’s resilience, determination, and love for her son moved us deeply. Her story reminded us that a Ruth Gift can be more than a moment of recognition but it can be an opportunity to make a deeper impact than we may think and help create a path forward.
