Our Connection
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization located in the heart of Santa Ana, California. Their heart is in serving children from ages 6-24 years old facing adversity by matching them with a mentor to help pave a pathway for their future. Her journey to the United States in April 2020 was marked by tragedy. Despite the immense difficulty of leaving behind her home country and loved ones, she made the courageous decision to seek asylum in order to secure a safe and promising future for her sons. Arriving with minimal resources and support, she was granted asylum status and a working visa, enabling her to provide for her family.
What was the main problem or challenge you were facing before using our service? “I had a lot of difficulty paying for my attorney fees for me and my son’s asylum case. I had to choose between food, rent and paying the firm. I was working constantly, barely saw my two sons, and lived in constant stress. I was always crying, exhausted, and had no time to rest. I desperately needed help.”
How has our involvement helped improve their situation? “Everything changed when I received help. It made me stronger in my faith and love for God, whom I have always believed in and trusted. I know He holds me in His hands. He also placed angels in my life who saved me from a truly difficult situation. Without their help, I don’t know what would have happened to me or my children.”
Would you recommend our service to others, and if so, why? “Of course, they are people with a great heart—they are the love of God manifested in person.”

“I met Samuel and Marissa Tang through Big Brothers Big Sisters, where I was working at the time. Their organization, OneVine, is dedicated to supporting the “Ruths” of today—those who face adversity but remain strong and resilient. I left our meeting inspired by their vision and commitment. A week later, I learned that a family in our program was in crisis and urgently needed help hiring an attorney to secure their immigration status. At that moment, I felt helpless—time was running out, and they needed immediate assistance. But then, I remembered OneVine. The woman that came to mind is the mother of one of our students, embodied the spirit of Ruth in every way. She walks with unwavering confidence that God will guide her, even when the path seems uncertain. OneVine stepped in quickly and provided the critical support the family desperately needed. They became a lifeline in that moment. Her faith, paired with OneVine’s dedication, deeply encouraged me and reminded me of the true meaning of being a vessel. I’m truly grateful for the work they do.”
